Dallas Career Day 2014

This Friday I had the wonderful opportunity of attending Career Day in Dallas for the first time. For those of you who don't know, Career Day is a wonderful opportunity for students to attend a day of inspiring seminars and influential speakers in all parts of the Fashion Industry. The day closes with the fashion show. A collection of students' work from across the nation. Of course not all 560 entries this year were able to walk the runway, so the board chooses what gets to walk. I was blown away to see my dress and jacket that I had submitted step out onto the catwalk.  It was such a thrill and was very affirming to me that I belong in my area of study. I think we can all use some of that from time to time. Anyway, I just wanted to recap my experience for you all! Hope you've had a lovely weekend!

Spring Fever

As the end of April approaches I have been feeling nothing but spring fever. The Texan sun is becoming increasingly prevalent every day and I can't help wanting to be outside soaking it up. For some reason this season has sparked my blogger's itch as well (which was much needed after an extended period of writer's block). But speaking of outside events, the latest Wacoan treasure my friends and I have stumbled upon is the Farmer's Market. Nothing says "summer's coming!" like a saturday morning walk through tents of fresh fruit and homemade trinkets (all at college-kid prices may  I add). This was a slice of just what I needed. Anywho, you may not peg yourself for the Farmer's Market type, but hey, you never know, maybe your local market will have crepes and heartbreakingly adorable baby pups! If you're bored this weekend, hit up google and see what your town has to offer! Fortunately good ole Waco proved to be quite photogenic for frolicking through the fair. Enjoy!

Remember That One Time I had a Blog?

Me either! Until now...

So sorry for my MIA-ness, life gets crazy, you know? You go home for Christmas Break, you come back to school, you rush (THAT'S RIGHT!), you start your new semester and things go right back to crazy. Anywho, I remembered that I kind of missed posting random things about my life and fashion-y junk, so here I am! Let me fill you in on some awesome experiences I've had in my absence.

1.) Signing a lease on my first apartment!

My three best friends here at school and I signed a lease on an apartment for next year! Off-campus life here we come! Somehow we scored an absolutely perfect loft that will be awesome for future blog posts. This summer we'll all go DIY crazy because what is more fun than crafting?! (Also we're poor college students...) I'll definitely be putting up some of my favorite tutorials when the time comes. :)

2.) Spending time with my favorite guy :)

Going home for Christmas meant not only seeing my family, sleeping in my own bed, and hanging out with friends, but also that I was going to be able to spend time with Ruben! Him coming to visit was the icing on the cake! I am so blessed :)

 3.) Christmas Eve!

It is a tradition on my mom's side of the family to spend Christmas Eve at my Grandma's house. After a long semester away, family time was a need! Seeing my extended relatives and hanging out with my parents and siblings was so so wonderful!

Traditional Cousin/Christmas Tree picture with Granny!

4.) And of course, RUSH.

For those of you who don't know, rushing a greek sorority is one of the most wonderful and terrible opportunities out there (in my experience anyway). Fortunately, my friends and I were so blessed to become baby Pi Beta Phi's! I'm loving greek life so far and stay tuned, I wouldn't be surprised if more Pi Phi related things popped up on this page.... ;)

Sporting our new colors proudly!

Best friends on bid day!
All in all, I had a wonderful break and was so blessed last year! I am so excited to see what God has in store for me in 2013! I know New Years was a couple weeks ago, but its never too late to count your blessings. :)

Matchy Matchy

This post is just for fun, not something I'd normally post but in honor of my first Baylor homecoming I just had to. :)

This past weekend was homecoming here at Baylor. As a freshmen, it was so cool to be a part of for the first time! On our way to the football game, two of my beautiful friends and I realized that we were all wearing very similar ensembles. Pat Neff (the building with the gold dome) was looking especially good that afternoon and the three of us decided to have some fun taking pictures.

White dresses in November? Absolutely. Rules are made to be broken right? And don't forget the cowboy boots. This is Texas after all. ;)

Sweater Weather

FINALLY IT IS SEMI LESS BLAZING IN TEXAS!
I guess I'm more than a little excited that I can finally dig out my cable knits and cardigans. Being a native Minnesotan, my sweaters are used to seeing daylight late-septemeber, not mid-november. Oh well, they are worth the wait! There's nothing like layering a chunky knit over some boot/legging combo. Top that off with a scarf and there you have my fall wardrobe. Sweater weather is indeed better weather. This season, Ive been leaning towards neutrals with rosy undertones. I think that the less intense colors lend themselves well to the soft textures, and they look good on anyone!

Bubble Trouble

One trend I can't go a day without seeing recently is women wearing bubble necklaces. Originally made popular by J. Crew (selling for $150), these statement necklaces were quickly replicated. Ive seen copies in almost every women's retail boutique I've been in recently. Of course, I couldn't resist getting my hands on one, but there was no way my college-girl budget would have ever forgiven me if I had paid full price. Fortunately, I logged onto www.Etsy.com and found the closest replica I could and paid only $9.99 (plus shipping). SCORE. Mine looks like this:

OBSESSED. You too, right?

Don't let the bright colors and statement-ness of these necklaces scare you! They are incredibly easy to style. While I tend to wear them with a buttoned up collared shirt, you could make an argument for crew necks, boat necks, v-necks, whatever! I also have a feeling we'll be seeing these for awhile because they come in fall/winter and spring/summer colors. Happy accessorizing!

Rain Check

This morning I woke up not to an alarm clock, but to the sound of rain against my window. How lovely! Sometimes rainy saturdays are just what I need. Even better--the rain brought the temperature down enough for me to layer up in a thick scarf, a denim button up and my favorite boots. Not surprisingly, Avery was wearing something very similar. Naturally, we had comfy cute on the brain.

Rainy days call for comfort, but it is possible to be comfy sans sweats. All you need is a pair of leggings, a cute scarf and voilĂ ! Comfy cute.

(also, I will be fully supportive you if you decide to wear variations of this look every day based on the incredibly high levels of comfort it offers--no judgement)

The Vintagemobile

Waco, Texas is a pretty cool town. Smack dab in the middle, between Dallas and Austin, you can find some pretty unique things here. This past thursday, The Vintagebus parked outside of Common Grounds and set up shop. This is no ordinary green bus (green buses aren't generally ordinary but this is Baylor so...). This is a vintage shop IN A BUS stocked with SUCH cool stuff.

I made off with a $28 burnt orangey-red cross body bag. IT'S GORGEOUS. I am in love. I honestly can't believe it was still there when i got to the bus in the late afternoon. What a gem!

This was a very spontaneous post, I'm just so excited about this bag I had to write about it! So if The Vintagemobile rolls into your town, stop in and look around. You never know what you might find!

Sheer Thing

Despite wrapping up the second week of classes, this crazy heat has me still in summer-mode. I guess I'll be keeping my jeans and cardigans in the back of my closet a little longer than I'm used to, and getting good use out of this summer's tanks. No matter the heat, it is officially September, also known as TT (transition time). Time for my summer style to emulate fall (hello rolled button-ups)!

Avery and I had lots of fun documenting today's outfits after coffee today.
Sheer tanks and iced coffees go hand in hand (;
